After living for years in a country in which possibilities are endless, to think that dreams can have physical boundaries is a thought that I don't even entertain. In most Indian villages, the kids do not know that dreams can stretch beyond the boundaries of their village. Being an individual who does realize the short-coming of this thought, I believe that it is my societal obligation to help these kids learn about the vast exhibition of prospects that the world entertains.
My name is Radhika
Gosavi, and I believe in the holistic learning process. Education is a
process that consists of bookish and practical knowledge. The books
teach us the theory of a given subject, the technical aspects, and the
ability to visualize how the object or mechanism can potentially work.
Books , in short, give us formal education. But the practical side of
education is the side that teaches us how to apply that valuable
knowledge to the real world- a practice without which individuals are
,frankly, disabled in the real world. Practical knowledge can be
attained through hands on activities, field trips, experiences, and
exposure. Thus, practical knowledge gives us informal education. My goal
is to reach out and help the students in Indian villages learn how
apply the knowledge they gain from books to enhance their understanding
of real-world situations. Besides the obvious, this take on holistic
learning can prove to be very beneficial to help the students gain an
interest in learning, and more importantly generate curiosity about
learning.
Who am I?
My name is Radhika Gosavi. Besides being passionate about helping children in Indian villages look beyond the book, I also attend the University of California in San Diego. I am currently studying Cognitive Science (Neuroscience) and Psychology. Apart from my classes, I also gain an applicative perspective on my subject by researching in labs, including the Brain and Cognition Lab, headed by VS Ramachandran.
I have participated in competitive soccer as well as dance for the last decade. These activities have taught me about a lot more than how to kick a ball, and move around gracefully. They have help build my character such that I am better able to face tough situations with composure, calmness, and logic. Apart from this they have also taught me how to work well in group settings and gain knowledge from experiences.
In the future I hope to earn a PhD in the Neurosciences as well as build a fruitful, stable , and fun life for myself.
